Our Community Choir

Dumfries Community Choir isn’t your standard choir — and never has been.

Since 2011, we’ve been building a loud, inclusive, alternative singing movement in the heart of Dumfries. No sheet music purists. No auditions. No barriers. Just people, voices and a shared urge to make something powerful together.

We take inspiration from indie, folk, rock and everything in between — creating big, raw, unexpected sound. This is community singing with a festival spirit: energetic, emotional, and a bit rebellious.

Anyone can take part.
No experience needed. No need to “be a singer”. If you show up, you’re in.

What started small has grown into a serious force:

  • 991 weekly sessions and over 1,200 people through the doors
  • Collaborations with 34 local artists, including Lewis Ferguson, Grant Dinwoodie and the late Nicola Black
  • Stages shared with Donovan, KT Tunstall, Camille O’Sullivan, Skerryvore and Dervish at the Big Burns Supper
  • Opened the first Big Burns Supper in 2012
  • Featured on BBC Scotland’s Christmas Celebration (2018)
  • From Wickerman and Youth Beatz to a regular spot on Eden Festival’s Main Stage
  • Performed at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow
  • Sang for Alex Salmond at Edinburgh Castle and for Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh in Dumfries
  • Helped bring the Olympic Torch into town

It’s a crowd. A sound. A way in.

Show up. Join in. Make noise.
